INFORMATION ON THE 5K WALK RUN
Saturday, June 22, 2013, 9:00 AM at Watson Park, 9th St. & Tennessee
THE ELVIS WALK TO END POLIO NOW
Come join people of all ages, including some Kansas celebrities from sports and other fields, in a walk through beautiful and historic Old West Lawrence with Joseph Hall, acclaimed Elvis tribute artist. A level and scenic route easy for all ages has been selected, and historical signs will identify any particularly significant homes and other structures from the past 150 years. “The most unique collection of period residences in Kansas,” Old West Lawrence is on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy your relaxing and beautiful walk with friends committed to eradicating polio.
Walkers are encouraged to wear whatever is comfortable. There will be special prizes for the top three Elvis walkers, based on costumes and ability to imitate the King’s renowned “Thank you very much.” Joseph Hall will select the winners, who will be honored and awarded prizes at the Community Lunch with the King at noon on Saturday, June 22.
ELVIS 5K RUN TO END POLIO NOW
This will be a non-competitive fun run with a clock at the midpoint and another at the finish line. The route will be the same as the 5K Walk and will precede the walking event through Old West Lawrence.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers, male and female, and winners will be recognized and awarded their prizes at the Lunch with the King at noon.
There will also be a special “Fastest Elvis” award. Competitors must run and complete the race dressed as Elvis and win the race to take home the prize that will also be awarded at the Lunch with the King.
SPONSORSHIPS WILL HELP END POLIO NOW
Walkers and Runners, please line up as many sponsors as you can, paying $1 or more per kilometer, enter their information on your Sponsor List form on this webpage, and collect checks payable to Leawood Rotary Charitable Account, fully tax-deductible, from each sponsor. Bring the form and checks collected to the 5K event on Saturday, June 22. Your effort in the next several weeks will determine the success of this Polio Plus fundraising effort. There will be a significant grand prize for the 5K walker or runner who turns in the largest, collected dollar amount of sponsorships.
